Aunt Bertha is building the country’s most comprehensive online directory of social service organizations. They believe that every person and family should have one place online where they can find help in a time of need – and they’ve been transforming the way social services information is organized and delivered ever since.
The Good Neighbor Energy Fund is a cooperative effort between Rhode Island’s gas and electric companies and The Salvation Army of Rhode Island. The effort helps people in financial crisis to pay their energy bills after they have failed to qualify or have been turned away from other federal and state energy assistance programs, such as LIHEAP.
Lifeline (http://www.lifelinesupport.org) is a government benefit program that provides discounts on monthly telephone service for eligible low-income subscribers to help ensure they can connect to the nation’s communications networks, find jobs, access health care services, connect with family and their children’s schools, and call for help in an emergency. Rhode Island Lifeline Service Providers include Assurance Wireless, Safelink, Cox Communications and Verizon.
The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources within the Department of Human Services oversees low-income heating assistance and energy efficiency programs to help Rhode Island families cope with the high cost of home energy bills. These programs are available to the low-income, elderly and disabled through local Community Action Programs (CAPs). The CAPs provide Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assistance from November 1 to March 31 to residents at or below 60 % of RI median income. They determine income eligibility.

VISIT THE WEBSITESince 1992, the Rhode Island Community Action Association (RICAA) has been a catalyst for change and a vital part of a coordinated effort to eliminate poverty in our state. They are dedicated to assisting Rhode Islanders and bettering the accessibility of benefits and services offered to low and middle income residents. Community Action Programs are located throughout the state and their services include senior care, after school programs, employment assistance, health and dental care, counseling, housing and heating cost assistance.
The Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program offers free heating oil to people in financial need who can’t afford to pay their heating bills. Each eligible household is allowed a one-time delivery per heating season of 100 gallons of home heating oil for free.

2-1-1 provides a trained and caring human connection – a call specialist – who helps people find assistance on everything from childcare needs and mental health issues, food and heating assistance, to gambling problems and elder care services. In the event of a significant storm or natural disaster, United Way 2-1-1 in Rhode Island support state agencies and connects people to critical services.
